 Standard Operating Procedures
« Thread Started on Feb 21, 2006, 8:34am »

Well, I guess I'll get this thread started. The topic of green tags came up in another category, and it made me wonder if it shouldn't be under this one. We have by-laws, but who knows how long it has been since they've been updated, or even whether they are strictly followed, but it's not the by-laws I was concerned about. It's the SOP's. We don't have anything in writing that I'm aware of, and I think it's high time we did. Would any of the other companies, excuse me,
departments
:D, out there have something that I could compare to, in order to get me on the right track.
And, how does each dept. differ from the next? It would be interesting to see how close to being on the same page we are. I know there are going to be some differences, due to location, such as rural vs. urban, but for the most part everyone should be comparable.

You bring up a good topic Jason. Here is a link to the Upper Allen Fire Dept's SOM:

http://upperallenfire.com/wp/wp-content/som.pdf

It's free to be copied and used by anyone.

We usually do one or two revisions a year, usually minor changes. For the major revisions we usually copy another departments procedures, I know that in the past two years we put a policy in for our thermal imaging cameras which we copied almost word for word from Phoenix (Arizona) Fire Department. Here is a link to Fire Fighter Close Calls' SOP links (about half way down the page):

Thanks for those links guys. Jamie, I wasn't able to get anything from the link for Upper Allen. Don't know if it's my pc or what.
If there are any local fire depts. that have a copy of their S.O.P.s that I could look at or borrow, that would be appreciated also. Thanks.

Rather then me trying to fight with a link head to our website
www.upperallenfire.com scroll down a little bit to the Department Resources list (located on the right hand side of the page right above the events calender) and click the Standard Operations Manual link. If this doesn't work let me know and I'll try and get an electronic copy emailed to you.

I'm not trying to downplay the other links but they are very basic manuals/by-laws (only 50 page documents at most) ours as well as most of the others on www.firefigherclosecalls.com are very detailed as to station and fire ground operations. Good luck.
