So we all know some nurses who we could just smack with a rolled up newspaper. What do we do about it, apart from grabbing the patient and running for the door?

Well, its probably not much comfort, but the EXACT same situation exists here in Lancaster County. It seems to be a universal constant. I CAN say that there are some that are better than others. There are some places that are ALWAYS mis-managing patients, but for others, its the exception. What makes the difference? Proper management! With the right people in place, the facility can minimize stupid patient care. Good management hires, trains and keeps only the good people, while poor management self-perpetuates.
Start at the top, not with individual staff members.

There is no fix . The way I understand it not many people go to school to work in a nursing home, Who want's to wipe grandmas butt for a living . So the staff is one of the following, 1. They are attempting to get into a hospital job and need to start some were. 2. They worked some were else and messed up bad, so can't find work. 3. They left Nursing to start a family, become a missionary, what ever, and are just starting back at it. number 1 the good will leave the not so good will move into number two. Number 3 the good will leave the not so good will move to number two. as you see all you end up with is number two. SO I think that all nurses should be required to do Nursing home rotations now and then to inject a little care into the homes. Next it has come to my attention that some of the staff at local facilitys may be reading these post, Well if that is the case be addvised that this pertains to the bottem scrapers and not the top feeders. all profesions have below par people, it just seems that they gravitate to nursing home staff. Sorry, I just call it like I see it .

If you would like to hear what pulls my chain, is once when I arrived at a local Nursing facility,( me with 32 years as a LPN and 30 years as an EMT ),and a CNA of about 1 yr Tells me She can't give me any info on the patient or allow me to look at the chart cause of HIPPA. I told her I didn't follow that religion, just give me the G D chart or she would be hearing from my religion the PA DOH
