I should clear some thing up, I hold the Fire department in high regard as well as the QR squads. Any one that gets out of there warm bed at 0200 to help a little old lady is a hero in my book. As for my time in bradford I have worked here in bradford for about three years now . I have never had any problem with any FD any were I have worked. I am sure that some of you who have lived in this county all your life can name off all the members in your and the surrounding departments. And yes it would be nice to know all the responders in our coverage area, but when you deal with 19 + departments it is hard to get to know every body, soory it is important to me but just not that important. I don't ask them to know my name so why should I be expected to know all of them?

Cledus,
So what QR are you talking about? We don't have any in the Valley, but we have them north of the border. Also if I’m on a call in the early morning, don't look for me to have a suit and tie on. So you tell me that I'm hairy? Don't forget to have your ID badge on. So people know who you are.

Well because fire departments can come up with accountability doesn’t mean that EMS can. EMS has come a long way from what it used to be. I also agree that we all should have some form of ID on ourselves that shows our qualifications and our name at least. Let’s face it, people who are being treated have the right to know who we are, what our certification’s are, and who our EMS company is. Not everyone can hear and having a tag of some sort to show him or her can mean a lot to someone. Lets not get carried away no one expects us to come to there house with a suit and tie on I certainly am not. There also is a common courtesy that we should follow. We should be dressed in clean cloths and look somewhat professional. I realize that might be hard at 02:00 in the morning. No patient should be upset at anyone for not being dressed properly but it helps the patient know there life is in someone’s hands that can get dressed and can look somewhat professional. ;D

For those who often run calls in the wee hours of the morning, just make it a habit to have a stash of clothes to put on as you run down the hall. Clean pants, a job shirt and as you go out the door you put on your whacker jacket that many of us have, pull your ID tag out of your coat pocket clip it on and you are good to go. It dosen't take any longer to put on presentable clothes as compared to holey sweats with your nads haning out and a tee shirt that shows what you had for dinnerand if you have wild bed hair, put on a hat. Remember even at 0300 we need to make a good impression on the patient and the family so they can have confidence in our ability to take proper care of thier loved one.

so your ID is on your bag on the floor, and you meet me on the porch. I still don't know you from Adam. unless you have it visable how are other responders going to know who you are. And what about accountability? if you use a tag systemm do you need someone collecting tags at the door? What i meant was, it is on the bag, when i respond it gets clipped to the outside of my clothing, it has a clip, therefore it is movable.

Flash; sorry I knew what you ment. I am a bit of a smart@$$, I can't help it . yes we have come a long way (EMS) but we still are seen as the bastard child of the fire service in some areas. I don't like it but it is true. Maby we should look to them for answers to some of our problems. The fire service has been around a lot longer and have delt with ID/accountability issues for longer.

Actually this discussion I think has proven its merit at least in my eyes. I went to our directors meeting for Tri township EMS. I posed the topic and got some really positive response from most. As an agency we all decide that ID badges would be a great idea. I have headed up this effort If anybody has any novel ideas let me know. cheap is better obviously but will entertain any ideas.
