Great safety feature/tool to have on rigs, just don't forget to use your mirrors when you have them.

I think they are the up and coming thing for the fire apparatus. It would not surprise me that it will be NFPA standards someday soon. Kim you forgot the dead stripe too.

I could see doug doing that. The cameras are nice, but you certainly can not rely on them. They are good to make sure of nothing in path, but as far as telling distance you pretty much have to go on judgement.

This true, but the ones on 2TA6 and 2E2 seem to be well protected. They both work great .

There should be no danger of hurting them from backing into something. If you hurt the camera I would think you would damage the truck. BOth of the ones that we have are VERY well protected.
Canton installed Cameras on Both of the last two pieces of apparatus that we have puchased. In my opinion they are not to much money. I dont think you can put a price on safety/life. They run in the area of 1500.- 2000.00 installed on a new truck. They can be bought for 1000.00 or so depending on how good it is.
We installed the stop strip on the Tanker---EXCELLENT FEATURE----a must have on all trucks in my opinion.

Memorial has them on 2 ambulance they bought, its a nice tool when backing into the station so the truck behind you doesn't get a new ding in it. Not to mention the fact that poeple sometimes walk behind you into your blindspot and its a great tool to see what these not so smart folks are doing.

I am not very impressed with them. I have noticed that rear mounted camera systems can lead to vehicle operators who don’t use the mirrors. This leads to more “dings” then it prevents.
