SAYRE - The Sayre Borough Christmas Parade Committee announced Tuesday that a $100 cash prize will be awarded to the winner of the 2008 John J. Repasky Fireman's Trophy for Best Decorated Emergency Vehicle at the 10th Annual Sayre Borough Christmas Parade, which will be held later this month.
This year's parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28.The 10th annual parade will mark the fourth year for the award, and the first year that a cash prize will be awarded. The cash prize is sponsored by the Howard Elmer Hose Company No. 4, which was the fire company that the late-John Repasky served as a volunteer firefighter and an officer for several years.
Previous winners of this award were the Chemung Fire District in 2005 and 2006, and the Waverly-Barton Fire District in 2007.
Peoples State Bank is serving of the parade's primary sponsor and Borough Mayor Denny Thomas will serve as the parade's grand marshall. For the third straight year, the parade will be televised on WETM-18. It will also be broadcast live over the radio for the eighth straight year by WATS/WAVR Choice 102.1 FM.

To date, over 45 entries, including local dignitaries, civic organizations, area fire departments and Santa Claus, have signed up to participate in this year's parade, said Borough Manager David Jarrett.
The parade route will begin at Brock Street near Sayre High School, travel down Lockhart Street, and turn onto Desmond Street then onto West Packer Avenue before ending in Howard Elmer Park. Santa Claus will be traveling in the parade on a fire engine from Engine Co. No. 1 and will stop at Howard Elmer Park to meet with and have his picture taken with the children. Santa will also distribute gift packages to the first 250 children under 12 years of ago that visit with him.
"In addition, more than a dozen very special gift packages will be handed out by Santa Clause during his visit in Sayre," said Jarrett.
The parade also ties in with the annual lighting of Howard Elmer Park by Engine Co. No. 1, which will be held later that evening. Howard Elmer Hose Co. No. 4 is assisting with the planning and coordination of this year's parade.
