Jamie,
I agree with you in some aspects when it comes to this topic, but looking at alternative for the new home builders it's an extra burden and cost for those people during this very trying economical time.
I do agree that sprinklers are a great asset in homes and commercial occupancy as long as the water flow is there for the system to maintain itself. In the rural aspect you have to pull from a well with a storage tank then a pump for the system and don't forget a back up generator in the power fails. All the extra equipment and labor for the system can be quite costly.
