I believe it is an area that should be at the very least discussed. I certainly would favor it as long as it is kept simple.
I would follow other counties leads such as Lycoming, Cumberland or Dauphin. Would we also do away with the multiple town/municpality names/number such as Monroeton 1 through 10 name them just what they are such as "Chief 7, Chief 7-1, Captain 7, Lt. 7, Lt 7-1, Safety 7 etc.?
What about multiple similar pieces within a company, would we consider Engine 7, Engine 7-1, Engine 7-2 and so on?
I believe if our Chiefs' at least discuss and review, we would be making headway.

Not sure about this one. What's the main problem with the way the calls signs are now (other than people clipping themselves)? Would there be another solution, rather than everyone in the county having to learn a whole new system?
Besides, that would mean a whole lotta rigs that would have to be relettered!!!! ;D hehehe

I'm confused as usual, how dose this new system make things any easier Unless your from another area, I would expect some confusion on our system such as Canton 1 or Canton 2 or Canton 3, this system is well known to our area (I think so) going to chief 2-1, chief 2-2, 0r 2-3 would only make things worse I think. What about fire apperatus, as we all know not many people listen to the radio. So if hte first pat of the chief or engine is cliped off, all you would hear for example is 2-2 is it chief 2-2 or engine 2-2

If changing identifiers will improve communications, it’s a good idea. If not, then why change it? It is not a good idea to change the system just for the sake of change or to match some neighboring county. Remember we are bordered by five Pennsylvania, and two New York counties, we can’t copy them all. We should do what is best for communications in Bradford County. I am not opposed to considering an identifier change, just as long as the reasons are justified.

Maybe one way we could look at renumbering the apparatus is that each piece of apparatus has certain requirements. I believe Chemung County does this, example 0233 or 1962, first set of #'s are the department, and the second set of #'s designate the apparatus. To go into it a little further I believe that all 30 series #'s are engines, 60 series #'s are tankers, 80 series #'s are rescues, etc. Each set of apparatus #'s designates certain requiremnets for that apparatus, i.e. 833 is different than 836, but they are both engines.

In Tioga County (NY) we have a simple system. The first 1 or 2 numbers are the department number. Next digit is the vehicle type. Third is the sequential number, if there is more than one. In my department it goes as such:
101, 102 and 103 are pumpers 131 and 132 are ambulances 141, 142, 143, and 144 are utilities, such as brush trucks 151 is a rescue 161, 162, and 163 are station captains 171, 172, 173, 174, and 175 are chiefs the 180-188 are fire police 191 is the ems lieutenant, and 193 with a last name attached is an ALS provider
We don't have a dedicated tanker, so there is no 121, at this time.

Sounds like a re-addressing fiasco in the making. Just kidding, I agree with Tim. I think his system would work very well. Might eliminate some confusion ie: Athens 1 & Athens Twp 1 or (Athens) Twp. 1 and (Warren) Twp 1. This doesn't happen often but the potential is there. Also you immediately know what rank officer or type of apparatus you are dealing with. This will really start an argument though.

You don't have all the units now numbered correctly according to SOP's You still have a few Departments that just won't change or follow the fire chief's SOP's!
