Group has been dull... let's get things going again.
What's the deal with this trend of fire/ems members calling stuff into county over the radio? Don't people realize that it's far better to use a phone? Especially for medical and police incidents... questions need to be asked, and some are questions that shouldn't be announced over the air... let alone that they're taking up air time.
I'm aware there are times when there is no choice, and the only method available is the radio. I see no problem with it as long as the individual is prepared to give a worthwile scene report. It's the ones who call over the radio and they're standing next to a landline, or have access to one in a reasonable amount of time... it's a waste of resources and it risks bad information or lack of information.
While I'm on the subject... what's the deal with using the radio for non-emergency crap like calling in controlled burns, disabled vehicles, or chit-chatting to one another? That's just plain a lack of common sense. The frequencies are for emergency operations. There are a few departments who will call in over the phone that their tanker is out on public service if there is another incident going on in the county. Though it's not necessary, it shows a lot of respect. Why can't everyone have that much common sense?
Before the panties bunch up... I'm not talking about any one department or individual. This is a fairly common thing.
Any comments or objections are welcome.
