How are proper scene reports handled in your dept. It seems we have more and more cross trained personnel. Firefighters/EMT/FR. How do you feel about giving patient reports over fire freqs. Is this a culture change where we need to be receptive to EMS information over the fire Freqs.

Personally I'm all for cross training, and keeping both sides informed of the entire situation. The problem is that there are too many of the "anti EMS" folks who dont want anything to do with EMS, think EMS personnel are second class responders, and would probably think that patient reports on fire1 are a waste of air time (yet will tell you that cars, FP's, chit-chatting, and arguing aren't a waste of air time) I think the first person on scene of an MVA, fire or ems, should give a scene report consisting of at least: is scene safe, is roadway blocked, how many patients, are any entrapped, and severity of injuries. It should take all of 10 seconds to assess. Then the report should be repeated to the other side. Just my $.02
