AFAIK, PA Department of Health has not yet cleared the use of trauma-dex or any other type of bleeding control device as such. I know the docs/surgeons don't like it because of the way it coagulates (clots) the blood. Sometimes, it does more harm than good.
Maybe in the near future, DOH will add this to the BLS list as they did the self administer epi pen last summer.

Since we are on this type of subject, How about those water gel burn dressings?
I know many ambulances carry them, but are they approved to be used by EMS providers in the state? Seems to me that they would not be a benefit to the patient in long term and harder to keep the wound clean, does anyone know?
