For lower extremity or lower arm. One word......Pillow. Easy to apply, cheap, every ambulance has one. Don't get me wrong other splints do work well also, but what happens as soon as you get to the ER, they take it off and can't or won't re-apply it. Keep it simple and you shouldn't go wrong. Hey you can't beat the price either.

Mansfield 2, I totally agree! I like to work with pillow splints, SAM, sling and swathe, long padded board splints or ladder splints. I do not particulary care for vacuum or air splints due to the environmental changes and you need to take special care in their storage.

Last time I used an air splint the 4 letter words were flying, It's only because someone forgot to put the board splints back on the truck. KISS

Pillow, pillow, pillow, pillow....it;s definately a favorite. Air splints are just a pain in the ***. Magazines, newspapers, board splints, sling and swathe, even the bottom portion of the CID's work well, and all are readily available and easy to work with, and don't usually have to be adjusted like an air splint does. Just my opinion.
