Can we change the number of units so that people do not get confused??
I am using Western just as an example
Western 1 Western 5
When they have a WA1 and a WA5 get confusing for many many people!

How about this: Unit=Driver FR=Certified First Responder Tech=EMT Medic=EMT-P
QRS=Any ambulance that has a partial crew ie. 1 EMT Ambulance=Full BLS Staffed Ambulance Squad=ALS Intercept vehicle MICU=Full ALS Staff Ambulance
Numbering for vehicles would not change, just the designation.
Also, how about having no duplicate numbers for individuals. (xx unit 1, xx fr 1, xx tech 1....) the only "1" would be for the captain/chief of the organization.

I replied to the fire truck numbering - I might as well comment here too! I agree that "Western 1" and "Western A 1" could be confusing on the air - especially during high radio traffic. Valley doesn't seem to have a problem, and I think it is because they have "Valley1" but no "ValleyA1". Maybe renumbering the ambulances would be the easiest thing to do. But others of us don't have that problem but could have a problem with the xxtech1, xxunit1, xxfr1. Do we just make it xxtech1, 2, & 3 are the captain and lts. and from there down we just number in order? For instance: xxTech1 xxTech2 xxTech3 xxTech4 xxFR5 xxFR6 xxUnit7 Anybody think that's feasible to do?

Here's my two sence, I agree with the confusion that could arise. However ther is no Western Ambulance One, copared to Western One, No Western ambulance four, compaired to Western Four and Western Five in not very active. If your really listening to the event, and people arnt talking over others, that it should be easily taken care of.
Is this info well know to the county I would bet not, but when listining to the radio or pager, its pretty easy to understand.
