We all deal with them. For those of us who run more than one field of emergency services, some have to deal with them more than others. So how would you grade your local reporters / news agencies? How well do they report your fires, MVA's and even now some medicals? Are they accurate? Are they honest in how they got the information? Do they respect everyone involved in the event? Do you feel they're really out for the best interest of the public, as they claim, or are they just looking for bigger and better stories?
I bring this up because it seems as if in the past few years our local "hometown" news agencies have been severely lacking on the accuracy of their reporting, even in the simplest of incidents. I've also noticed that their methods of acquiring the information and photographs have been quite dishonest and disrespectful both to emergency service personnel and to the citizens/family involved. Even if a story contains truth, it's hard to ignore when it possesses only the facts that fit their opinion.
I don't deny that I have a grudge, but I do know that I'm certainly not the only one who feels our local journalists need an attitude adjustment. They should be responsible for what they report and respectful to everyone involved, although it's all too easy to hide dishonesty behind the 1st amendment.
Maybe it's always been like this, and I'm just now noticing it
*These opinions are my own, and should not reflect on any service I am with!
