Just a question for all of you rescue Guru's out there, do your departments REQUIRE any specialized training before your members are allowed to participate in affecting a rescue? This training can be in the form of inter-departmental training or state training. Please express your opinions and your policy's or lack of policy!!

We require all officers to have the BVR and push the same for the grunts. For the amount of pin jobs we get, we like our people to be proficient with the tool. We are currently working towards getting the Rescue DOH certified and that is a project in itself. As for Rope Rescue and others, this was a topic of discussion yesterday because not alot of our people have the specialized training like that and confined space.

I believe that anybody that is going to be doing rescue operations should have formal training, that said, I also know that the number of "formally trained" personnel are in the minority in this area due to the departments being volunteer and with evryone having ajob other that that of the fire department. All in all I agree with the fact that there should be at least in house training before you even get to touch hydralic tools such as hurst tools and the kind, I believe that if one didn't have any such training, your asking for trouble as the tools have much more power than the average peson could fathom.
