For those departments that run Rescues, what are your minimum training requirements for personell to operate the rescue tools if any? Do some of the people who perform extrications on your calls have little or no training in vehicle rescue? And how often does your department/company train for vehicle rescue?

If you don't have AT LEAST BVR don't touch anything! We hold a full out rescue training at least 4 times a year with donated vehicles and our BLS EMS service. As to other weekly trainings, whatever is requested gets done, and vehicle rescue and extrication is a popular choice, at least to just go over tools and refresh memories and do some pre-planning.

Both places I run do rescue, both require a formal type training class (BVR or State 16 hour minimum) to be operational. One push's very strict adherance to doing it the right way and the other we don't. Both get the job done well, but you can tell the difference when you are involved in an operation.

Ok, does your department work well with the local EMS when evaluating what needs to be done when you are extricating a patient or do you just do what you think is needed?

Our local rescue dept. is also our local ems, so there is quite an advantage there. Almost all of the bvr techs are also emts so it really makes for a good system.

Our department requirements to operate the rescue tools are at least BVR and in-house training with the Officers of the association.

OUR RESUE AND EMS CREWS WORK VERY WELL TOGETHER BECAUSE MOST OF THE AMBULANCE CREW IS ALSO RESCUE TRAINED. TO GO ALONG WITH THAT I BELIEVE THAT ALL RESQUE CREWS NEED TO TRAIN HAND IN HAND WITH THE EMS, FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS. SO THAT ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN A RESCUE SITUATION CAN BE BETTER PREPARED FOR A RESCUE: WHETTHER THAT BE A SEARCH ,MVA, DIVE, EXTRACATION FROM A STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE,WATER EMERGENCY, OR ON A FIRE GROUND.

Our department is EMS. Our association provides EMS and Rescue for our coverage area. Our fire departments are seperate and do not provide rescue services, however are cross trained with us to assist if needed. Our association has always went with the philosophy that an EMS based rescue organization is more beneficial to the patient, being that the patient care is never compromised during rescue operations. Although our main rescue operations are MVC related, we are also capable of rope, collapse, trench, structural fire, S&R and water rescue. We have 2 rolling toolboxes and there isn't much that we don't have between the 2 rescues.
