On 4-17-2004 at 12:43pm Bradford County 911 received 911 call reporting at least a two car mva at the intersection of the Berwick Turnpike and Hoblet Rd in Smithfield Twp. At the same time they were receiving a radio report confirming 4 pt with 3 injuries and 1 walking around.
Dept 3, Smithfield EMS, and Memorial EMS were dispatched at 1244 hrs. First arriving field unit was myself confirming 1 vehicle off the roadway possible rollover initially. Upon further assesment of the vehicle and patients, I found 1 vehicle involved with four occupants. The vehicle was severly damaged on the passenger side from skidding thru a ditch. The four occupants consisted of the driver (walking around), and front seat passenger (class 1 amputated arm), back seat passenger side (class 1 total scalp avulsion), and the driver side passenger (class 2 neck, back, and belly pain).
I immediately requested 2 aircrafts in the air and Smithfield 1 upon responding already had Ridgebury EMS dispatched to assist due to the number of potential patients.
3 Rescue 1 provided EMS support for pt packaging and 3 Engine 1 provided handline support for both the vehicle and the LZ which was established on scene.
Two pt's were transfered via STAT and the other two went by ground. Geisinger Lifeflight was cancelled while enroute.
All units involved worked quickly at treating and extricating the victims from the vehicle to keep within the Golden Hour.
Units that responded were Smithfield Fire, Smithfield EMS, Ridgebury EMS, Memorial EMS, STAT Medevac, Gesinger Lifeflight, PENNDOT 1, and PSP Towanda.
