On Oct 16th at approximately 1626 hours Dept 2,16,22 were dispatched for a structure fire on Seeley Rd. To clarify what people may have heard yes 2 Rescue 8 responded first. Canton 4 and two other fireman were returning from Wysox cover up assignment and just passed through Leroy. Upon arrival the tenant advised myself that the fire may be out. She stated she used some water and a fire extinguisher and then closed the door and exited the house. Being on the rescue we only had a fire extinguisher and drinking water. Canton 4 ask us to go in and get a size up. Upon entering the back bedroom there was minimal fire still burning which we extinguished the rest of the way with the fire extinguisher. Canton 4 was advised fire was out and Mutual aid could be cancelled. 2 Truck 1 arrived and a fan was placed in operation to ventilate the house. Damage was contained to a small area in the bedroom with less than $1000 damage. Cause of the fire was a candle burning underneath a curtain with a spray can of hair glitter sitting next to the candle which acted as an accelerant once it vented. Tenants did the right thing which actually probally saved from having more damage. Dept 2 units cleared the scene at 1659 and were back in service in quarters at 1724... WHO says Rescue trucks cant put fires out...
