Box 2-1 was struck at 19:33 for a reported Structure fire in Canton Boro on West Union St. Canton 1,2,4,5 responded from the firehouse. Canton 1 and 2 arrived on scene at 19:34 of an old (1903) Preston Mill to have a fairly small fire loked on the first floor in the main room and a bystander stating that there may be entrapment. Canton 1 immediately called for a fuull 3rd alarm assignment due to the possible entrapment and the fact the it was a old mill and was going to grow rapidly. Canton 2 started a immediate search while Canton 1 checked the area to position trucks that had a ready responded. Within 15 minutes the fire had pushed Canton 2 out and had gorwn to the 3rd floor of the building. The initial water supply was from a nearby hydrant supplied to 2 truck 1. Two 1 " 3/4 attack lines were initially strechted with a 2" 1/2 to follow while the ladder was being set up for operation. Dept 16 arrived and set up on the side D of the building and stretched a 5" inch line to another hydrant that was on another main. 2E2 arrived and started a reverse lay of 1300' from the scene south on Troy st for a lay to Springbrook creek. Troy arrived with 16E2 that also connected to that lay for another 1000' with Monroeton (I think) finshing it off with another approx 400'. North Towanda arrived and NT1 finished getting it set up to start supplying the water Supply. Dept 15 Arrived with 15L2 and set up on the North side of the structure in case we lost control. At 19:51 the fire was called under control with extensive MOP up. The fire was called out at 21:51. In all we were assisted on the scene by Western Alliance EMS, Troy Fire Dept., Franklibdale Fire Dept., Monroeton Fire Dept., South Creek Fire Dept., Towanda Fire Dept., North Towanda Fire Dept., Liberty Fire Department, Salvation Army. Approx. 100 fire people on scene. All departments had cleared the scene by 23:30.
The fire was contained to the South side of the building and all floors are still safe to be on.
One minor injury to a fireman that was treated and released from Troy Community Hospital.
The fire continues to be under investigation by Canton Fire Dept., Canton Borough Police and the State Police Fire Marshall.
