Apparently our local helicopter was involved in an accident in Harrisburg on Tuesday. Reports indicate that Stat 15 (N522ME) crashed on the helipad at Harrisburg Hospital after unloading the crew and a patient. The initial media report, first link at the bottom of this post, indicates that there was a "mechanical problem" that would not allow the aircraft to fly from the roof pad, and the aircraft required a crane to lift it down to a waiting truck. An aviation forum, second link, indicates that the pilot possibly attempted to lift off the pad with the Cyclic locked (flight controls locked), and slammed back down onto the pad. Though I can't confirm this to be true as it is just a forum, it does provide a photograph, and an initial FAA report that specifically states the aircraft crashed, that nobody was injured, and that damage was substantial. As far as I know, neither Stat nor CJ Systems (the operator of Stat's aircraft) have issued a press release. Along with the obvious interest that this was our local aircraft, Stat and CJ Systems have drawn national interest due to their concerning safety record. I would assume Stat is operating one of their backup ships at the 15 base, as there has been no mention of a lapse in service for our area. More to come when it is released. www.pennlive.com/newslogs/patriotnews/originalforum.justhelicopters.com/DisplayThread.asp?BD=350064&Page=2&ForumID=23&msgid=350064&OM=350064#350064
