LIVES ARE PRECIOUS
Fire and Burn Prevention Program
On October 9th, 2007, at 19:00, Fire Prevention Chief Martin C. Phelps, also known as Fireman Marty, will be at the Ridgebury Fire Dept. to speak to our children on Fire and Burn Prevention. Mr. Phelps has been in the fire service since 1961, both paid and volunteer, and has been a fire prevention specialist since 1972.
This program educates children at their own level through realistic means and is tailored for specific age groups. Please be advised that the program does contain some carefully edited slides of children injured in urn accidents and explains burn treatment. The children are told what to expect as the program begins. The program is meant to inform in a straightforward and realistic manner, and not to surprise, scare or sensationalize. Mr. Phelps also uses a friendly and humorous but serious approach to relate to the children, stressing the importance of proper escape techniques, keeping their rooms tidy, and the dangers of playing with flammables.
Fireman Marty’s Lives Are Precious Program has been in over 650 schools, viewed by more than 500,000 children in the United States, Canada, and South America. The program has been acclaimed by psychologists, school administrators and Parent-Teacher Associations. It is estimated that the program has directly saved lives and minimized burn injuries in hundreds of people, with direct cases documented.
We urge parents to view the program with their children. This program has also been registered for continuing education for providers.
