Fire Company Needs New Building Funds
[glow=red,2,300]The Brady Fire Company was destroyed by fire last summer[/glow]. Now the company has a new building but needs money to transform it into a proper hall.
A fire company in Northumberland County that was devastate by fire earlier this year is making a comeback but it's going to be a tough and expensive job.
Members of the Brady Fire Company are planning their new fire station.
It will be located in a structure that already exits in the village of Ranshaw.
The building has a lot of history. At one time it was a social hall for a church, a roller skating rink, a National Guard armory and a textile factory.
"We just don't have anywhere in Brady to call our own. We don't have a home right now," said Coal Township Fire Chief Russ Feese.
A fire leveled the Brady Fire Company this summer. The fire engines were saved but just about everything else, including the building, was ruined.
"As fire chief and having to respond to your own fire station it's burned into your mind and it'll never leave," Chief Feese added.
The new building will have some pieces of the old fire company, including the corner stone.
"I just want everyone to know that we're coming back. We're going to be here for Brady and Coal Township. We're going to do it if it kills us. We're going to do it," vowed Tom Sayles of the Brady Fire Company.
"The Brady fire company wasn't just a fire company, it was a social hall. There's not a lot at this end of Coal Township. It means a lot to all the people as a meeting place and a place to gather," said Lenny Huxta.
The new fire station will include a hall and picnic grove that can be rented. That will help generate cash to keep the fire company operating.
Officials hope to have the first part of the new fire station up next summer. The cost could reach a million dollars.
The fire company is in need of donations to make the new station a reality. To help, donations can be sent to:
