Kudo's to Matt and Chief Rapsky for the excellent presentation they put on @ Franklindale last night. Both showed excellent professionalism admist numerous questions/complaints/concerns about policy and procedures. I, for one, walked away from the session with a better understanding and am now a strong advocate of other departments having the "county" do road shows so to speak.
Good job, fellas!

Thanks Tim! I felt it went pretty well. I wouldn't mind doing it again for any other department in the county. Education leads to leass head aches later on.

I have been very good about not using my car number thank-you very much! If you read in Tim's book of procedures it clearly states that "The use of 7car1 shall only be used when operating in the Canton Fire District, and then only to discuss pertinent information with the pudgy, balding Fire Chief." I will send this matter to my review board for clarification, however I am quite sure that this phraseology will stand! Please feel free to contact me again on any procedure problems! ;D ;D ;D ;D Tim

Scott; I will have to recheck the "Tim's Book of Radio Procedures", but I am fairly sure it states, and don't quote me on this just yet, "Any personnel with a title, both existing and former, shall utilize any radio call sign the user feels necessary when communicating with the pudgy, balding Fire Chief of the Canton Fire Department, as he (the Chief) is always looking for someone to listen to him, for he is GOD!" Or maybe not those exact words, but something to that effect. I will send this matter to my legal team for clarifacation, so we have our :Ds'es protected in case I spelled this out wrong. Thanks for the question! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Tim

Hey Flynn (Bring your truck with no water guy), I want to clarify the Car thing . I agree that there is a time and place for them. But When a box is Paged (yours or mine) it is always a blast trying to get and give orders when there are 15 "cars" responding----WHO CARES----go to the station, get the truck and bring pump and water. You are good bout it but I wish we could say that about them all. And---I AM NOT BALDING or PUDGY-----I have a nice belly and thin hair And as for Dispatcher 8----you can be anything you want. Just do it on Channel 2 Timmy---Next time call out as 7carwhatever---JUST BRING WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Signed you friendly car hater

Kim; I hear what you are saying & completely agree, but look how long this problem has existed. "Self monitoring" or whatever terminology the chiefs' association & 911 staff want to call it, is lip service. Until a hard policy is approved (and I know this hard to get) this is going to continue. Was the intent good when this was started, YES. Has it gotten completely out of hand, ABSOLUTELY YES! I am not pointing fingers, but looking in the mirror. My department is just as guilty as the next in its abuse of the radio system, but until a hard-line stance is taken with "us", it will continue to evolve. Nut-busting aside, keep the opinion you have and drive that one home wherever you can, be it at work or an association meeting! 10-4 Kaye! Tim

The radio class inpressed everyone who attended and those that were not there do not fret over it as we have contacted the Matt and Bob show for an encore presentation in MONROETON on OCT.15 at 7 pm every one is invited to attend and harass Matt and Bob . ;D

Yes we do discuss plain language along with other issue that need discussed. We even talk about proper freqeuncy usage. This is something that some departments need to look at instead of worrying about what every other department does wrong.

Since I left Sayre to move to Texas, which didn't work out and got stuck in SC. Rob Repasky took over Radio Comms. I could say alot about the man, but one thing we all have to admit is the man does his homework. You might not like the answer but you can bet you bottom dollar it's the way it is when Rob says it. I have a pretty good idea what presented, so I'd like to add this. Not everyone needs a radio. portable or mobile. It would be well advise to scan thru the list to find those who don't need them and get them off the air. Now I know that will tick some people off, but too bad. I know person who thinks he needs two portables with him on the fireground. he is even taken portables from Lt's so he can have two portables. The question is priority. Who really needs to have a radio. Then enforce it. The decision as to who gets what ultimately the EMA, He's represents the licensee and he is the one who has the authority to say yes or no. Obviously, department & line officers, Driver/operators, Fire police, Comms off., & after that you need to be very selective. Listen and think before engaging transmitter and mouth.

Chris, TriTwp had one awhile ago, but I'm sure Matthew wouldn't mind doing another one. And maybe he can do each individual division so more people can attend. I know in our division we have a few people on the evening shift that might like to be there. Maybe the Captains of each divisions can contact the Comm Center and get it set up.

Sue that actually sounds like a great Idea I know we have taken on some new members here in Ridgebury some that have never even seen a radio befor so I think it would be very informative maybe after the holidays and when everything start to settle a bit we could work on that.
