I think they should have a class on Radio Procedure all over the county, because I'm hearing people giving direction to people to get to the scene after they already gave to someone else from their department. Also when they give the class give them a map of the county so they don't have to ask for direction.

Also when they give the class give them a map of the county so they don't have to ask for direction. This would be fine, except that nobody has an accurate map of the county yet. The maps that everyone uses are old, many of the roads have 2 or 3 different names or they aren't even on the map. Many places in Bradford County (outside the valley) are a nightmare to find do to these facts. Try it sometime.

Priority Traffic on January 5, 2005. Bradford County: (following a dispatch) “Priority traffic only, emergency dispatch to follow.” XX Unit X: XX Unit X responding to (interrupted by alert tones) Is this Priority Traffic? Should anyone try talking over dispatch?

Wasn't it a wonderful day yesterday. Numerous fire depts and EMS agencies on the road doing what they have to do in the middle of a major winter storm. As always you can never have any time in between incidents that always have to happen back to back, without anytime to get people on the road before the next one hits.
The 911 center advises all units Priority traffic only after dispatching an MVA because another dispatcher is ready to bang the next MVA out. I guess certain field units in our county consider responding to an incident as priority traffic . The 911 Center considers Priority traffic as finding another incident that needs assistance, a critical on scene report from an officer (reporting entrapment or multiple pt's) etc...
Just another thing to make the dispatcher job more difficult, Is having field units that don't listen to the complete dispatch or think that every word that comes from their mouth is important to the 911 Center.
Just my 2 Cents.

I agree Matt, and I think EOC did a great job sorting out the mess. As for our part in the field we (or at least the ones in the Valley) were trying to function with a minimum of radio traffic. If others could exercise the same good judgment all of this would be an academic conversation. Your 2 cents are worth at least a dime.
And thank you to other agencies for your good judgment as well.

Oh Boy, what a good place for me to start....
But I won't
Remember folks, We have stripped the PL off from tones so not everyone hears when we are PAGING. If they have thier radios programmed with a receive PL they will not hear us until we start to talk. This is one of the faults in the system. Thank Motorola for that nice little hiccup.
Some do not want to listen to all the other counties so they put it in there like that. I can blame them.

I'm going to have my radio reprogram with PL for Round Top, so I don't have to hear all the jabber on the radio from other agency.

If i am incorrect on this I am sure somebody will correct me but I believe that the PL on receive is countywide. The only agencies you will block out are susquehanna county. Sorry Bubba, you still have to listen to the people who havent got the fact that if they have a radio they must talk.
The road show is a great way to inform responders about the system and how to use it properly and efficiently. It would be nice to see it in more places.
