In Athens Twp., the only people with a radio are the officers and fire police. Just because all of the officers have a radio does not mean that all of the officers will verbally respond to a call. Our protocall for radios is that the only "radio responders" are to be apparatus and chiefs. To the best of my knowledge, the only time another officer is to call responding is after a second page if no chief has responded, and unless you specifically have to pass the scene to get to the station, you are to go to the station to get a truck. I agree that having 2, 5, or 25 firefighters at any scene are doing no good with a fleet of fire apparatus sitting in the barn. Not to count the fact out that it sounds sooooo unprofessional to hear units 5,9,8,7, techs, 9,6,3,8, and Perfect F.D. officers 1-15 responding to the scene and not a single peice of apparatus on the road yet. Now and then you will have people break the rules of the radio or response procedures. That is of human nature and diciplinary action is usually taken on these incidents. There is no perfect fire dept. in the world, although we all try to be. B.C. EOC is doing a great job,But maybe the EOC needs to crack down a little harder if the individual agencies fail to do so.
