New Albany Boro from the telephone office north to the Interestion w/ NA/Wya Rd. has became one long dead spot for med communications. I noticed this on Saturday @ the MVA. Not just A2's radio, we could talk to each other, but as far as Tx'ing out-on anything, from any vehicle... nodda. All three units report not being able to receive communications also.
Never been like that before, I'm sure it could be ice build up on a tower from the recent rain/freeze. Will probably go away when it warms up.
I'm also sure that 154.1300 becomes useless the farther away we get is only due to the lack of towers in Northern Sullivan.
Just thought someone should know.

Looked into this problem today 2-14-05. Director 1 and myself did numerous tests on mobile and portables along this area on both Med and Fire without any problems.
We beleive it's a problem with the ambulances radios not our towers at this point. If this trouble continues please let us know ASAP.
Oh by the way Sullivan Co freq doesn't get out well from that area.
Also if the FD is dispatched to a fire related call ( MVC, Brush, Mutual AId, etc...) They are encouraged to come to our fire 1 and converse with us and New Albany or Wilmot Units.
Any questions call.

If you could talk to each other fine, sounds like perhaps someone or multiple someones were on talk-around? Otherwise, how could you talk to each other fine, but not be able to receive? Not able to receive what?

The med radios worked fine today, from the same general area. I wonder if it was b/c we were parked near the telephone office?
That always makes the fire radio go nuts.
[glow=green,2,300]BTW.. Matt
Thank You for looking into the matter so quickly, sorry it turned out to be a flop, I just meant it as an FYI. Karin and yourself; and the rest of the Communications team are doing a great job! [/glow]

Not able to receive what? We don't have talk-around Med freq's for our ambulances. Med 1-12, w/ a PL for Bradford, Lycoming, WilkesBarre and Montour. Since fire & ems are together, we all use the fire freq. which has 6 TA channels. I could hear the other amb talking to BCR, and the other amb could hear me. It's just that we were not able to receive any communications from BCR. The dispatcher told me on the phone they could hear us, and they were answering... But it wasn't getting to either units radio. I was able to talk to BCR on Med9 from A1, and recieve just before I rolled into NA. But then, it went silent. Everything was fine until we crested that hill by the telephone office, then when all units left the scene, we were able to Receive again. But it doesn't matter now, they checked, it worked; we used it today (allbeit not the same location) still it was fine.

Matt
When you tested the SulCo frequency you were loud and clear on the pagers both times. When Lyco answered you they were the ones that were completely unreadable. They have some major issues with their microwave system between Montoursville and Laporte. I take it you were on Bear Mt. tower ?

It sure sounds to me like someone needs to get on the "correct" people in Sullivan or Lycoming Co. that make the difference. If you get no where go the the commissioners, It should be totally unexceptable that you have these troubles and have for what appears to be a LONG TIME.
The money goes to them to make sure you have coverage. If all else fails, remember the press can be on your side!

Well Lycoming County says its "not their system, not their problem" which is complete BS and their dispatchers think so too. As for Sullivan County. they just keep saying that they are working on it, so the Commisioners think all is well. Now we have the local townspeople and townships on our side complaining too. Im sure it wont be long before this mess hits the press. Thanks for your concern chief.

The latest update to the SulCo communications saga.... According to SulCo DES a new repeater will be placed "somewhere" in the northern part of the county in April. The 15 watt repeater that is currently "dispatching units in the eastern part of the county will be bumped up to 30, maybe even 50 watts. And a simulcast system for all towers will be installed in around October, something similar to lycoming county's system....( and maybe even bradfords, i dont know how it works) so hopefully after 5 years of a communication nightmare, ppl wil actually be able to talk on a portable and hear dispatches on their pagers.

The first call we had w/ high band was a fire... The pagers didn't go off, the whistle didn't blow, and nobody could hear each other on the portables. The last call... Some of the pagers went off, the whistles is broken, and people were talking on their portables but the right people couldn't pick it up. Now that's what I call progress on working out "just a few bugs" from that first week! <sarcasm> Maybe if we go back to the ten phones, sirens and everyone dispatching themselves they would make the system 100%? And I don't mean 96% of the system working 4% of the time.
