Becoming more of a scanner wally lately, I have noticed new and improved versions of standard transmissions and responses, both from the field units as well as our dispatchers.
"Enroute and on the road" are two of the more popular slangs to date. I personally think that what is transpiring is a good thing, as we as a whole are getting more comfortable with our services and working within good relationships.
That being said, I would love to one day here that someone is "taking it in" (responding), units are "taking up" (preparing to leave the scene), asking for the deuce or triples (second or third alarm).
God forbid I ever hear someone go on scene with a 10-75. That would cause me to excuse myself to the bathroom to clean up!
Do youse see where I am going here?
10-4 Kaye!

Roger-wilko, 10-4, lima-charlie, clearly-loud ;D
As with anything, there is times that using slang and being silly is fun and others when they are not. Hopefully everyone will continue to make it serious when it needs to be. I know personally that my shift goes much quicker when you can use some of the "lighter" terms and get a smile.

There's a few of us here in Lyc. co. that listen to "thebravest.com" a little too much. I think I am to blame for the start of using it on the radio though. We had a member get a job at the 911 center a few years back and I told him the first time he was working the fire board when we got a run that I would "say hello". Well the first time was a working fire and I was the officer on our Engine. I responded the unit with "county, 2 Engine responding kay". There was a moment of silence and he came back with "2 engine kay". It started to get going in the next year or so with many officers stating that "all hands working" and "probably will hold" and I think I have even heard a "10-75 the box" once or twice......

When arriving at the Robert Packer Hospital, I sometimes try “out at Bob’s”. That one originated with Valley Medic 14.

As long as "Back in the barn" goes away, I'll be happy. Oh yeah, "In service and available" needs to go away also. That's like saying, "I'm responding and enroute".
