I'm assuming that all of the static, humming, and breaking up on the radio the past couple of days is because they are trying to tune in the towers for simulcast? It's kinda weird, because sometimes I can hear county loud and clear, but the person they were talking to(who was within a few miles), was hardly readable.

This is because we have a repeater system in the county, not simplex service. You only hear what the radio tower is hearing, even if you were standing next to them!! This is why people need to be educated about channel 2, which is not repeated. It is a direct frequency. Kim would most likely be glad to do a radio class for you if you wished!!

I know that I would only be hearing what the tower would be hearing, and was already aware that channel 2 is a non-repeated channel. Usually though, I would be able to hear channel 1 off the local towers without any interference or noise. It's just that lately, there has been a little more than usual. I wasn't trying to put anyone down. I was just being curious. We had the radio class at our dept., and it was very informative. In fact, we were told that if we were noticing any problems with transmitting or recieving, to let them know at the comm. center, but I figured that it was something they already knew about and were trying to remedy it.

The Fire At board is a great thing should be kept up at all fire houses Chief 322 will agree with me on that one As for Simulcasting being your enemy I'd disagree It's just like everything else it can be a great thing if used right, If you give the county some time they'll have the bugs worked out of it........ Just thinking out loud but of every one I know that runs in Sullivan your the first I've heard this from. Is this a dept wide problem? Just your pager, or do u know of other Dept's? I know of a certain pa dept that had a similar problem called the county out in the news paper and everything the county sent in an out side crew they did all the test and every time every where received activation and sound. So they went to the next training and found out the Dept and the old county fire 1 still programed in there pagers. We Use Simulcast on DDGs, LPDs,LHDs, and CVNs for a Damage control radio system(there Motorola portables xts5k (75 total) with cmd1550's being used as base stations in each work center one on the bridge and one DC central( 9 total) and one repeater on the mast for inter battler group communications( for major casualties) now don't get me wrong your dealing with a much larger area but we are dealing with 5- 10 decks below the water line, each deck is Steele and then you have the bulk heads with are also Steele and just as thick as the decks. We don't have a problem and we love are radios we are hard on them and they hold up. So like i said You'll love it when it's working give it some time.

Oh no, this is a county wide problem, and I agree a simulcast system is a great thing, Lyco Fire 1 can be heard in a 100+ mile radius of Williamsport... as for the Sullivan County thing, they have been "fixing" the problem wayy too long and should seriously seek professional help.

THATS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, PROFESSIONAL HELP. IF THE TIMING IS OFF YOU WILL HAVE TO GET PEOPLE TO THE TOWERS THAT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING
