Jason-
Is the old truck in reserve status, or OOS? Does it have a current certification and remain equipped for a response, should it be necessary?

old 24-engine-1 is in retirement. It currently sits in our substation in east athens. The truck is for sale, however, as per FEMA, it cannot be put into service as a firetruck again. May be a good piece for a farmer or road crew. 24-engine-2 is still in service until later this year when the new engine-2 arrives. Athens Township was awarded a FEMA grant for a new engine and production is underway. The new engine is a KME with a 1750gpm pump, rescue style body with roll up doors, custom cab with 12" raised roof. Will-Burt, Nightscan light tower, 30kw pto generator, LED warning light package (with LED Rotoray). 1000 gallons water and 20 gallons foam. I will try my best to post some production pictures as they become available.

Billy:
I guess I don't comepletely understand the logic here. LA's engine was purchased to become a third engine, correct? The ATVFD received a grant to replace an engine, thus making the replaceable, useless. The useless engine sits in East Athens, OOS. The primary unit to cover this area of the township, barring mutual aid, is a tanker company, correct. Are there any plans in the ATVFD to going back to a 3 engine company, which is what it became prior to receiving the grant, or will East Athens and Herrick Ave split two engine companies?

Tim, yes there is a little misunderstanding here. LA's engine was not purchased to be a third engine, it was purchased to replace old engine-1 (which was in desperate need of replacement), because we didn't think we stood a chance of getting a grant. Then we found out that we were getting the grant, so "on paper" the grant engine is still replacing old engine-1 and the LA rig is replacing engine-2. The only reason the useless engine sits in east athens is because the apron over at that station is being redone and for the time being, cannot be driven on. So, as of right now, both of our engines and both of our tankers are being housed at the Herrick ave station, until the apron in east athens is repaved (our tanker sunk through the apron while leaving for a call one night). So far, we have been, and will continue to be a 2 engine company. I know, it's kinda confusing!! (Especially for a truckie ) Now, this will probably confuse you a little more: Right now, engine-1 is our primary engine, with our east athens engine (engine-2) being temporarily housed at main station. But...........after the "new" engine-2 arrives, the the primary engine and east athens engine will be reversed. Engine-2 will become the primary Herrick ave rig, and engine-1 (LA's rig) will be moved over to east athens to cover that area of the township. As of right now, we don't have an in-service truck in east athens, but we still have really good response times out of main station. Will we ever be a 3 engine company again? Time will tell. We were going to submit this year's grant application for a wildland/quick attack pumper, but after careful consideration we have decided to apply for a new brush truck to replace the 1953 dodge powerwagon. At this point, I'm sure that the next major apparatus purchase in the future will be a platform.

Billy (Chief):
Good job clearing that one up and its not as confusing as you thought. Ahh a tower ladder, now thats a truck. The Aerialscope is probably the best all-around platform made. Only draw-back, to me its not though, is no-pump direct from factory. Easy use, setup and best weight to flow at any angle or elevation on the market. But you pay for it. Last I heard they were going for 975,000 to over 1 million.
Anyways, back to your new engine. The spec's sound great. I am kinda getting a hint of a Rescue/Engine in the works here, is that true?
I know in a previous thread it was discussed about the ATVFD purchasing a set of tools to supplement Rescue 7. By making a true Rescue/Engine, this would be a huge supplement on a usually crowded scene.
Well, good luck in your endeavor. Regardless, I am sure it will be a benefit to not only the ATVFD, but the valley area as a whole.
