In 1855 the Athens Fire Department was formed. A large parade was held soon after to celebrate the new dire company. The Towanda Fire Companies traveled to Athens by canal barge and led the procession up Main St. (No, I wasn't at that parade).
On Friday August 5th we hope you all can join us in recreating that parade. It would be great to have Towanda lead the parade again, followed by all the area fire companies. Departments from as far away as State College have expressed interest in joining us.
Line up will be at 6:00 in the downtown area. The parade will move off at 7:00 and proceed up Main St. to the Athens Borough Park. Refreshments will be ready for visiting firefighters at the park
Please come and join us. Please reply to me if your group is participating.
