Rumor has it that a NYS EMS agency from Broome County has met with Sullivan County EMA to start an ALS "flycar" service for Sullivan County. Anyone hear this rumor? Also, the new ALS station would be the old PSP barracks on Rte 220 south of the "hubcap man". Can anyone confirm?

We have been hearing that for about a year now with no proof!! Rumor is the key word here!

That will never happen. Sullivan County Emergency Services/Commissioners are too damn cheap! We had a medic service for about six months, maybe a little longer; they deemed it not necessary! The talk comes about after a state survey showing Sullivan County having the HIGHEST DEATH RATE in the commonwealth! That said, you should also know that 85% of our population is over the age of 65.
Didn't an ALS service out of Scranton operate in Bradford Co. for a while, maybe before Western? Donahue?
I'm all for an ALS unit in the county. It should be staffed at a central location so it's just about ten minutes from eveywhere. The county isn't willing, they have already proved that. Besides, this talk has been on going for about six years, I'd be surprised if it didn't last six more, if the county fathers are in charge of making the decision.
Now I'll get my usual email or phone call for bashing the people in charge of SC. They can give 3 Million Dollars to a company to impregnate cows in a county refurbished facility; or 2 Million to make Eagles Mere a rich persons paradise; But won't give us 20 Thousand to pay the Medics to stage in the county 24/7. Pathetic

Mr lamedic... I'm curious as to who you are. Maybe a little behind the 8 ball, but ya still know a little about the area. Who be this mystery man? (or woman, to be politically correct)

To go along with what Blue said, it would also be nice if SulCo put forward some money to fix the radio system that was installed by the JV squad. , but I guess a $2 million sidewalk that gets used 3 months out of the year by non-county residents is more important. ALS in the county again would be nice, but I don't see it happening anytime in the near future.

I don’t think that the decision makers in LaPorte know what they don’t have and how little it would cost to bring Sullivan County a little closer to the 21st century.

I don’t think that the decision makers in LaPorte know what they don’t have and how little it would cost to bring Sullivan County a little closer to the 21st century. Don't be silly! You can't fool us, we know it's 1955! To be fair the fire and ems services are advanced way beyond our time for such a rural area. I bet you can't find many tiny counties with 7 well equipped rescue trucks, 7 ambulance services, 5 w/ TIC's, and a truck co. The whole place that time forgot thing is for tourism. When Memorial covered the area w/ a rig stationed in Laporte they were losing too much money. If the county could fund, and staff an ALS rig so that the company covering didn't have to risk losing money-it'd be all good. They may have to invest some big bucks, finding a place to house them wouldn't be hard. The SCMC has someone on call 24/7; they could build a small garage at the Med Ctr; and medics on duty could add to the night emergency staff. And Laporte is centralized, basically 10 minutes from anywhere. Except maybe Shunk & Wheelerville, but they are close enough to Canton that Western is their best bet. See... A post that can't possibly piss anyone off. It is possible!

See... A post that can't possibly piss anyone off. It is possible! Keep it up Blue and this board will no longer be known as the "cage match". ;D You make some good points; try selling it as EMS for the tourists, oh and the tax payers may benefit also.

We're all on the same side Blue is right we are all on the same side here. I grew up in Shunk. I have family in Sullivan County. It pains me to think that someone would have to wait past the golden hour for definitive care just to accommodate a county or municipal budget. Sullivan County can have its own ALS if it wants it, where there is a will there is a way.
