Tim,
I think you took what I wrote about the Lancaster site wrong. I just thought it was a good site, I wasn't trying to compare us to them.

I did't take it wrong, that site is just how I would like ours to be. They have excellent posts that spawn good debates (constructive).
I just don't feel that we can compare some of the things on that site (operations) to things we do here. I admire Lancaster, Dauphin and Cumberland Counties for how efficiently they handle their operations on a county level. Funny thing is they believe their systems are messed up and antiquated.
I firmly believe that we have a fantastic group of fire leaders in this county, second to none. Each is a vital part of a puzzle that just doesn't seem to get put together. We have the expertise and capabilities to be the top-notch county in this state, in my opinion.
Take your EMA group for example. Are they not one of the best in the state in regards preparedness (weather) and training for WMD. We have the talent.
Its just a female dog seeing the potential, knowing we can be the cream of the crop, and always getting nowhere.
I for one would like to have people look at us a model county for emergency services. Maybe its just a pipe dream.

Tim you make a good point about the systems that other counties use around the state. And like it was stated the systems work well but they DO HAVE FLAWS. I think it comes down to what ever works best for the county and the departments within it. 75 to 80% of Bradford county is rural which calls for a different set of actions to be taken for a working fire then other areas that are mostly suburban (Dauphin, Cumberland, and Lancaster). There is always room for improvment with everything that we do in the fire service. While I was home over Christmas I tried to talk to someone about the box system that is in place, and tried to give some ideas on how to improve it, I was politley told that will never work around here. Maybe it's time to look at how surrounding areas are doing things with their boxes and try to incorperate some of their ideas into the box alarms that we currently have in place in Bradford County so that we can make the service that we provide for the general public BETTER! That is why we are here isn't it?
